The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the struggle between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for materialism in Showalter's delightfully tacky film adaptation regarding the shamed TV preacher plus her lawbreaking partner. Garfield acts as the venal Jim, who states early on, “God does not want us to be poor,”. The couple set about monetising the American public's Christian beliefs. It's an extravaganza of tacky decor, excessive cosmetics and insincerity, though the lead actress succeeds to depict the real-life figure in a likable light. Next Tuesday, 1.15am, the Film4 channel
